My first experience with long-term care was watching my mother spend years providing and managing the care for my grandmother. I watched her begin spending hours at my grandmother’s home and later spending nights and weekends. I watched her struggle to manage working full-time, caring for our family, and trying to make sure my grandmother was safe and cared for. I watched as the last remaining land in our family was sold in order to pay for ongoing care so that my mother could spend some time at home with her family. And while I have no doubt that my mother dearly loved my grandmother and appreciated all of the time she was able to spend with her in her final years of my grandmother’s life, there is no doubt that it took a physical, emotional, and financial toll on my mother and our family.
So as a former retirement and investment advisor I always brought up the topic of long-term care planning with my clients. Unfortunately, I simply didn’t know what I didn’t know and looking back I didn’t help many of those families to the degree that I wish I had.
Then I met Linda Caruthers. I knew that I wanted to bring in an expert to give the families I worked with the highest degree of service and expertise possible. Linda and I began working together with several of my families, and I had the privilege of learning more about long-term care planning than I ever imagined. After three years of working together with my retirement clients, Linda asked me to consider becoming a full-time, long-term care planning specialist and working alongside her in Long-Term Care Consultants.
To make a long story short, I saw that there was not a single long-term care planning specialist in my local area and realizing that - like myself in the past - most of the financial professionals around me - while of course well-meaning - simply don’t have the knowledge to effectively help families make these critical decisions. So I agreed to transition my career and obtained my Certification in Long-Term Care®. With my background in investment and retirement advice, I bring a unique skill set and out-of-the-box thinking to the long-term care planning and funding process.
And most importantly, I truly care about all of the people that I have the privilege of working with. I am passionate about helping you develop the best possible plan for you to protect the people you care about the most and/or make sure you are able to receive the best care for yourself if the need arises.
